The Sports Dietitian



Saraï Pannekoek, RD, CSSD, MSc.

Saraï is a registered and licensed dietitian (RD), a certified specialist in sports dietetics (CSSD, SCAS) and clinical epidemiologist based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands with more than five years of professional experience in the field of sports performance nutrition. She is author of the scientific yet practical sports nutrition book Eet als een atleet (Eat like an Athlete), which was launched in October 2017.



Saraï has a Bachelor of Health Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from the HAN University of Applied Science in Nijmegen, The Netherlands (2012). Upon graduation, Saraï went on to complete her dietetic internship at Floris Wardenaar’s team – HAN Sports and Exercise Nutrition. Right after graduating she completed the Sports Dietetics course and in 2015 she graduated her master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Amsterdam. She also passed the ISAK Level 2 course in September 2015.


She won the 2016’s Talent Award by the Dutch Dietetic Association. She was nominated for the Wall of Fame back in 2014 – Dutch 50 most inspiring and valuable dietitians.

Athletic Experience

Saraï started kickboxing in 2008 and trained at Albert Kraus’ team and Fred Royers’ competition team until 2011. She started Brazilian jiu-jitsu in 2010, took bronze at the Abu Dhabi Pro Trials in 2013 in the blue feather weight class as a white belt, and received her blue belt right after. She competed at the IBJJF Europeans and other (inter)National tournaments. In 2014 she started Olympic Weightlifting and combines it with Brazilian jiu-jitsu, yoga and surfing.

Professional Experience

Saraï’s work experience includes as a sports dietitian at the Centre for Elite Sports and Education (CTO) in Amsterdam and Eindhoven. During and after her undergraduate studies, Saraï volunteered as an experience expert at Ixta Noa in Nijmegen in the field of eating disorders. Through 2014-2016 she worked as a lecturer and researcher at the HAN University of Applied Science in sports nutrition, metabolism, clinical nutrition and exercise physiology. In addition, Saraï has been the Head of Nutrition at Changing Life in Amsterdam, the mother company of Personal Body Plan, DoorMeal and Personal Body College.

Currently, Saraï is the sports performance dietitian at the CTO in both Amsterdam and Eindhoven, where she works with several teams in the field of nutrition, such as ladies rugby 7s, women’s basketball, women’s soccer, judo, baseball, softball and swimming.


Saraï is a member of both the Dutch Dietetics Association (NVD) and the Dutch Sports Dietitian Association (VSN). She is SCAS-certified, and registered in the Dutch Paramedical Quality Register.

Mission and vision

As the being that Saraï is, she believes in whole foods and plant-based nutrition so that sustainable and responsible practices can be encouraged. She feels that it is her mission to promote ecologically sustainable sports nutrition diets, and to raise more awareness of the importance of the environment.
